My name is Dallas. I was born February 16,1993,at the University of Missouri Hospital.I weighed 9 lbs.and seemed very healthy.Later that day,a group of Drs.came in to tell mom something was wrong. They heard a murmur.Fortunately for me,I was born at one of the top hospitals, that specialize in childrens heart defects! They found out I had a heart defect called Tetralogy of Fallot. (see link)Mom and Dad were very scared, but left it in God's hands. We moved to Cleveland, Ohio,in the summer of 1993,and I started going to the Cleveland Clinic, another highly rated hospital. Dr. Murphy was my cardiologist, and Dr. Mee (from Australia!) was going to perform the repair. I did very well, aside from turning blue occasionally.I've always been a laid back kind of kid ,I think thats why they didn't have to perform my surgery until I was 20 mo.I began to get worn out from doing even simple things. Dr.Murphy said it was time, before it got any worse. In oct. of 1994,I had surgery.Mom and Dad were very blessed to have Uncle Max & Aunt Julie keep them company during the surgery.(see 3rd pic. down)It took 8 hours, because of some other problems they didn't know about until they started the surgery. They also reconstructed a valve, and ballooned a vessel, that was too small. I was in ICU for 3 days-sound asleep,,and by day 5,I was up and walking around! I was in the hospital for only 1 week :) Since then,I've been doing great!.I celebrated my14th b-day Feb.16th.I went for yearly check-ups,and am doing so well,I now go every other year.My Drs.keep saying I'll need another surgery as I grow, but my checkups keep turning out great! Ptl!!! . Thanks for reading my story! |
